World Water Day 2025: Nigerian Bottling Company and Quality Foods Africa Advocate for Responsible Water Use
In celebration of World Water Day 2025, the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) and Quality Foods Africa (QFA) are reinforcing their commitment to water conservation and environmental sustainability across Nigeria. As key players in their industries, both companies are taking action to promote responsible water use and cleaner communities.
The Significance of World Water Day
Observed every year on March 22, World Water Day is a global initiative by the United Nations to highlight the importance of freshwater and encourage sustainable water management. The theme for 2025, “Glacier Preservation,” focuses on the role of glaciers in maintaining the world’s water supply and ecosystems.
NBC’s Commitment to Water Stewardship
Oluwasoromidayo George, NBC’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, emphasized the company’s dedication to water conservation. She explained that NBC launched several initiatives across Nigeria, engaging communities, environmental advocates, and stakeholders to spread awareness about responsible water use.
“Water is essential to life. As a core ingredient in our products, we take our responsibility seriously by using it efficiently, treating it properly, and returning it safely to communities,” George stated. She noted that NBC’s activities spanned several locations, including Maiduguri, Kano, Lagos, Abuja, Asejire, Owerri, and Benin. These efforts focused on water security, protecting waterways, and empowering communities through sustainable solutions.
Beach Clean-Up at Elegushi
A major highlight of this year’s activities was a clean-up at Elegushi Beach in Lagos, organized in partnership with Quality Foods Africa. Employees from both companies, along with volunteers and environmental advocates, worked together to remove plastic waste and pollutants, reinforcing their commitment to protecting Nigeria’s coastlines.
Omachona Eguda, Marketing Manager at Quality Foods Africa, shared the company’s perspective on sustainability. “At QFA, we prioritize responsible business practices. Partnering with NBC for this initiative aligns with our mission to protect the environment. Through projects like the Elegushi Beach Clean-Up, we are promoting cleaner coastlines and encouraging collective action for a sustainable future.”
Educating Communities on Water Conservation
NBC also extended its outreach to schools and local communities. On March 21, the company conducted an awareness session at Amakohia Primary School in Owerri, teaching students and teachers about water conservation. The following day, NBC launched a sensitization drive in Kuchigoro Community, Abuja, focusing on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). The initiative aimed to improve access to clean water and promote better hygiene practices.
To further spread awareness, NBC organized a water conservation walk in Owerri on March 25, encouraging the public to adopt sustainable water practices.
A Commitment to a Water-Secure Future
Through these efforts, NBC continues to lead in water conservation and environmental sustainability. By taking action and engaging with communities, the company is reinforcing its role as a responsible corporate leader dedicated to a cleaner and healthier future.
