Uromi 16: Arrest Perpetrators of Brutal Killings Now – Shinkafi Urges IGP

Uromi 16: Arrest Perpetrators of Brutal Killings Now – Shinkafi Urges IGP

The tragic killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State, has sent shockwaves across the nation. These innocent travelers, on their way from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah celebrations, were reportedly stopped by a vigilante group, set on fire along with their vehicle, and left to perish. What kind of horror story is this? This isn’t a movie; this is real life! And it’s unacceptable.

Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a prominent northern leader and Executive Director of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD), doesn’t have any of it. He’s calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to step up and bring the killers to justice fast! This isn’t just about revenge; it’s about justice, humanity, and upholding the law.

Let’s get one thing straight: Nigeria is not some lawless jungle where people take matters into their own hands. We are a country governed by laws, and jungle justice is not part of the script.

Our Constitution (yeah, that big book that sets the rules) guarantees freedom of movement under Section 41(1). That means no one has the right to stop travelers and subject them to inhumane treatment. If a crime was suspected, legal authorities should have handled it. But setting people on fire? That’s cruelty at its peak!

Shinkafi didn’t mince words; he called the act barbaric, inhumane, and a grave violation of human rights. And honestly, he’s right! If we allow this madness to continue, where do we draw the line?

Now, this is where law enforcement needs to step up big time. Security agencies can’t just sit back and issue statements. Action is needed! Arrest the perpetrators, prosecute them, and show the nation that mob violence won’t be tolerated.

Shinkafi also urged the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly to create strong laws against mob killings. Because let’s be real, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of horror, and unless something changes, it won’t be the last.

The video of these innocent travelers being burned alive has been making the rounds on social media, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking. Just imagine these were people going home to celebrate Sallah with their loved ones, and instead, their families are now mourning them. This isn’t just a crime; it’s an attack on our shared humanity.

We need to rethink our values as a society. Are we really okay with watching our fellow Nigerians being killed without a second thought? Where’s the compassion, the empathy, the sense of justice?

Shinkafi isn’t just talking, he’s demanding action. He’s urging the IGP and all relevant security agencies to hunt down those responsible and ensure they face the full force of the law. This case must set an example so that no other community thinks they can get away with this level of cruelty.

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. May they find strength in this difficult time. And to the government and people of Kano State, we mourn with you.
