Nigeria has lost a true icon! Mrs. Adenike Ebunoluwa Oyagbola, the country’s first female minister of cabinet rank, has passed away at 94. A trailblazer, an educationist, and a powerhouse of inspiration, her legacy remains unforgettable.
President Bola Tinubu sent his heartfelt condolences to her family, calling her a “beacon of inspiration for women in Nigeria.” In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Oyagbola for breaking barriers and paving the way for countless women in leadership.
Oyagbola, who served as the Minister of National Planning from 1979 to 1983, wasn’t just about politics—she was a game-changer. Her contributions to national development, youth empowerment, and the arts have left an everlasting impact. Tinubu emphasized how her unwavering commitment to ethics and progress laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s growth.
