Suspected Human Trafficker Nabbed in Sokoto, Two Women Rescued from Libya Trip

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has done it again! They just busted a notorious human trafficker and saved two women who were on their way to Libya. Let’s break it down.

Sirajo Illela, a name that’s been on the wanted list for a hot minute, was finally caught at his family home in Yar Kara, Illela Local Government, Sokoto State. The NIS team, led by their fearless Comptroller, Tony Akuneme, made the move on February 12. And guess what? They found two women with no travel documents, all set for a risky journey.

Meet Maryam Akinosi, 40, from Ogun State, and Olatunde Abidemi, 26, from Oyo State. They were about to be smuggled out, but thanks to the quick action of NIS, they’re now safe. No more dangerous backdoor routes for them.

This guy has been a nightmare for both NIS and NAPTIP (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons). He’s known for sneaky activities at the Illela border, helping people cross illegally. But now? His game is up.

Akuneme didn’t just stop at the arrest. He made it clear. NIS is all in when it comes to shutting down human trafficking. With their boss, Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, leading the charge, the agency is making sure our borders are safe.

Sirajo is now in NAPTIP’s hands for deeper investigations and, hopefully, some serious justice. The NAPTIP commander in Sokoto praised NIS for their teamwork in tackling human trafficking head-on.
