SGF Harps on Accurate Data for National Planning & Budgeting

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, is all in to fix this.

At a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu, Akume stressed the power of data in shaping a better future for Nigerians. His message? Without accurate data, there will be no actual developmentIt’s that simple!

Nigeria has been setting up budgets for years, yet many communities barely see fundamental changes. Why? Because the numbers don’t add up! Without proper statistics, how do you know how much to allocate for roads, schools, healthcare, and other essentials? It’s like throwing darts in the dark!

That’s where the Local Government Proof of Address (POA) System comes in. This new initiative will help track real-time data, ensuring that every dime in the budget actually reaches the people. With POA, the government will know how many people live in a specific area, making it easier to distribute resources fairly.

Akume believes POA is a game-changer. It’s not just paperwork. It’s the foundation of financial inclusion, urban planning, and economic growth. Having verifiable proof of residence opens doors for better infrastructure, security, and even business opportunities.

Even ALGON’s National President, Bello Lawal, is in on this. He sees POA as a crucial step towards fixing Nigeria’s long-standing data problem. According to him, this is not just another government formality; it’s a necessary leap toward real change.

This system will ensure better services in your area and enhance security. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah pointed out that tackling crime and keeping communities safe would be easier when every resident was accounted for.

So, if done right, POA won’t just be about numbers. It’ll be about making life better for all Nigerians. More schools, better roads, and improved healthcare all start with knowing where the people are.

Nigeria has been budgeting for years, but with accurate data, we’re finally getting closer to working budgets. The SGF’s push for POA is a step in the right direction, and if implemented correctly, we’re looking at a new era of real development.
