Reckless Driver Kills Traffic Officer in Oyo: A Tragic Reminder to Stay Safe
I’ve got some serious news to share that’s been making waves in Oyo State. Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded in Agbowo, where a reckless driver took the life of a dedicated traffic officer, Kehinde Fabunmi, from the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA). This heartbreaking event has sparked outrage and a firm promise from the state government to seek justice.
So, what happened? On Saturday, Officer Fabunmi, who was doing his job to keep our roads safe, was struck down by a driver in a flashy black 4matic Benz sporting the plate number LSD 862 JS. This driver blatantly ignored traffic signals and, after being stopped by OYRTMA officers, tried to make a run for it. In a desperate attempt to escape, he reversed his vehicle and hit Fabunmi, causing severe head injuries. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Fabunmi was sadly pronounced dead later on.
OYRTMA Chairman Adekoya Adesagba didn’t hold back when he spoke about this tragedy. He condemned the reckless actions that led to Fabunmi’s death, emphasizing that our traffic officers work tirelessly to ensure our safety. He stated, “Anyone who assaults or disrespects them will face the full wrath of the law.” Yes, you heard that right! The government is taking this seriously.
The police and OYRTMA officers acted quickly to apprehend the suspect, who now faces prosecution. He was brought before the Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, but since the court was on a break, his case has been adjourned until Thursday. For now, he remains in police custody, and trust me, this isn’t going to end well for him.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers traffic officers face every day. We all need to do our part by respecting traffic laws and being cautious on the roads. Let’s honor Officer Fabunmi’s memory by committing to safer driving habits.
Stay safe out there, everyone! Remember, a moment of recklessness can change lives forever. Let’s keep our roads safe and support those who work hard to protect us.
