Otti Mourns as One Dies, Eight Injured in Abia JTF Crash
Tragedy struck in Abia State as a road crash involving the state’s Joint Task Force (JTF) vehicle claimed one life and left eight officers injured. The accident happened at Isieke, along the Umuahia-Bende road, when the vehicle lost control and tumbled into a ditch due to brake failure.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the unfortunate incident, revealing that the injured officers, comprising personnel from the army, police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia. While medical professionals are working hard to ensure the deceased officer’s recovery, the officer has been taken to the morgue.
Governor Alex Otti has stepped in, offering condolences to the bereaved family and assuring top-notch medical care for the survivors. According to his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the state government fully covers their treatment to speed up their recovery. Otti described the crash as “sad and unfortunate,” regretting the loss of a life.
Meanwhile, the FRSC uses this as a wake-up call for all motorists. The Abia State Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, urged drivers to always check their vehicle’s condition, especially brakes, before hitting the road. Speeding and poor maintenance can lead to irreversible tragedies, she warned.
This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility. Let’s stay alert, keep our vehicles in check, and always drive responsibly.
