Nigeria to Switch to Fully Online Visa Applications by March 1
The Nigerian government has just announced that all visa applications will move to an online-only system by March 1. This transition marks a major shift in how visa processes will be handled, and it’s all part of a bigger plan to streamline services and enhance national security.
The announcement came from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a live discussion on ‘X Spaces’ with influencer Segun Awosanya on January 21. Tunji-Ojo explained that the shift to a fully digital system includes the establishment of a centralized visa approval center. This center is designed to make the approval process more efficient, reduce corruption, and tighten security.
“The centralized visa approval center is a game-changer,” said Tunji-Ojo. “It’s a key part of our efforts to modernize government services and ensure uniformity in visa processing.”
The move to an online visa system is aimed at eliminating inconsistencies in how visa applications are handled. By digitizing the process, the government intends to make it easier to vet applicants properly, helping to safeguard Nigeria’s borders while speeding up approval times.
This new system is a part of the government’s broader strategy to embrace technology and increase transparency across various sectors. So, get ready to submit your visa applications online soon—this change is set to roll out before March 1, making it a more efficient and secure process for everyone involved.
Many experts are praising this initiative, viewing it as a big step toward cutting down inefficiencies and strengthening Nigeria’s visa processing systems.
