NDLEA Discovers Massive Hemp Farm, Arrests Hundreds in Ogun State
Big wins for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun Command, as they uncovered and destroyed a massive six-hectare hemp farm in Alaka village, Ogun State. The state commandant, Tijani Rabe, shared the exciting news during a press conference in Abeokuta while unveiling the agency’s 2024 achievements.
But that’s not all, there’s more to the story. Four suspects linked to the illegal farming operation have been arrested and are currently under investigation.
Ogun’s NDLEA command had a busy year fighting the drug menace. In 2024 alone, they arrested an impressive 675 offenders and seized a whopping 9.7 tons of hard drugs alongside 537.81 liters of liquid-based illicit substances.
One of their standout operations, “Operation Closed Gates,” specifically targeted drug syndicates during the festive season. This special initiative blocked all entry points into Ogun State, resulting in a massive bust—100 bags of cannabis, weighing 1.3 tons, were confiscated in November.
“Operation Closed Gates has been a huge success,” Rabe proudly announced. “It shut down key drug supply routes, dealing a major blow to drug merchants.”
The agency didn’t just focus on busts—they also educated the public. The NDLEA held 128 awareness programs across schools, communities, and workplaces, impacting over 27,648 people. From students to professionals, the campaign highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and promoted healthier choices.
The command didn’t stop at arrests. They secured 221 convictions for drug offenders, with several other cases moving steadily through the courts.
With achievements like these, Ogun’s NDLEA is setting the bar high in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. The combination of bold operations and public advocacy showcases their commitment to creating a safer society.
As Rabe said, the agency is laser-focused on its mission. And with the successes of 2024, they’re proving that teamwork and strategy can go a long way in curbing the drug menace.
