Man United to Hike Season Ticket Prices by Around 5% – Here’s the Scoop!

Manchester United just announced a ticket price hike for next season right after dropping news about a shiny new £2 billion ($2.6 billion) stadium. Talk about timing, huh?

Season tickets are going up by around 5%. If you’re under 16, you’re in luck. Your prices stay the same. But here’s the kicker: some senior discounts are getting scrapped. And to top it off, select seats near the Old Trafford benches are being turned into premium hospitality spots. Translation? The club has more revenue but fewer affordable seats for regular fans.

According to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United was on the verge of running out of money by Christmas. He claims that things would’ve been rough without his investment and some serious cost-cutting, including laying off 450 staff. The very next day, he confirmed the grand stadium revamp. Talk about making moves!

CEO Omar Berrada chimed in, explaining that the price bump is necessary to keep the club financially stable while dealing with rising costs. He acknowledged the unwavering support of season ticket holders and assured fans that the increase was necessary.

Fans have been vocal about their frustrations; honestly, who can blame them? The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) had already urged Ratcliffe to freeze ticket prices. And let’s not forget the uproar when matchday tickets hit £66 earlier this year with no discounts for kids or seniors.

Berrada insists that even with this increase, United’s ticket prices are still lower (adjusted for inflation) than they were a decade ago. Plus, they’re comparable to other top clubs in the northwest. But does that make it any easier to swallow? Hmm…
