Labour Party’s Governorship Candidate Returns to PDP
Chijioke Edeoga, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Enugu State, has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He made the announcement after receiving his PDP membership card at the party’s state secretariat in Enugu on Monday.
A Political Homecoming
Edeoga’s return to the PDP comes just two months after some party leaders urged him to come back. He had left in August 2022 after failing to secure the PDP’s governorship ticket. Instead, Peter Mbah won the nomination and later became the governor. Edeoga, who finished second in the general election, challenged Mbah’s victory in court but was unsuccessful.
Welcomed Back by PDP Leaders
The PDP’s state chairperson, Martin Chukwunweike, along with other party leaders, welcomed Edeoga back. Speaking at the event, Edeoga called his return “historic and memorable,” saying it would bring a shift in Enugu’s political landscape. He described the PDP as his “home” and expressed excitement about rejoining the party.
What’s Next for Edeoga?
Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES, Edeoga said he would soon reveal his next political move. However, reliable sources within the PDP suggest the party has promised him a ticket to contest for the Enugu East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 election.
Edeoga is no stranger to legislative politics. From 1999 to 2003, he represented Enugu East-Isi-Uzo Constituency in the House of Representatives under the PDP’s platform. His return to the party signals a new chapter in his political career and adds a fresh dynamic to Enugu’s political scene.
