Kidnapped Catholic Priest in Kaduna Found Dead After One Day
Tragedy has struck in Kaduna as the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan confirmed the killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu. He was kidnapped on Tuesday night and found dead just a day later.
Father Okechukwu served as the pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area, until his untimely death on Wednesday. The church, through a statement signed by its Chancellor, Jacob Shanet, shared the heartbreaking news.
According to the statement, Father Okechukwu was taken from his residence on Tuesday night, and by the early hours of Wednesday, he had been killed. The reasons behind his murder remain unclear.
“This loss is deeply painful,” the statement read. “Father Sylvester was always available to his parishioners, and his sudden death leaves a void in our diocesan family. We mourn with his loved ones and all who cherished him.”
The church urged the community to stay calm and avoid any acts of retaliation. Instead, they encouraged people to pray for peace and justice during this difficult time.
