I’ve Never Met Nicki Minaj Despite Collaborating With Her – Davido Spills The Tea
Here’s a wild one for you. Would you believe me if I told you I’ve worked with Nicki Minaj twice and that I’ve never actually met her? Sounds crazy, right? But yup, it’s true!
I recently pulled up on the Bootleg Kev Podcast and shared how this unexpected long-distance music link-up happened. Let me break it down for you because it’s a proper Gen Z internet-age story.
So, picture this: one fine day, I was vibing and scrolling through my Instagram when I noticed something shocking. Nicki Minaj was following me! I had to double-check to make sure it wasn’t a fake account. Once I confirmed it was really her, I shot my shot and slid into her DMs. I kept it cool and told her I had a track I wanted us to jump on together.
Guess what? The next morning, I woke up to a reply from the Queen herself! I couldn’t believe it. She said she was down to collaborate, and the rest was history. This all happened around 2019 or 2020. I sent her the track, and boom, just two days later, she sent back her fire verse. Fast and flawless!
We even planned to link up in Los Angeles to shoot the music video for our first collab, Holy Ground. But sadly, the timing didn’t work out because Nicki was expecting her baby back then. Life happens, you know? Even though we didn’t get to meet in person, we stayed connected.
Fast forward to last year, Nicki hit me up again! This time, she wanted me on her Pink Friday 3 anniversary album. That’s the second time we cooked up magic together all over the phone and online. She’s always been super supportive and real with me. Honestly, she’s one of the coolest people I’ve worked with, even without ever sharing the same room.
In this digital age, it’s wild how you can build real music chemistry without meeting face to face. So yeah, I’ve got two collabs with Nicki Minaj, but we’ve never met. Crazy but cool, right
