I’m Not Running Rivers Like Nebuchadnezzar’s Time – Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara is making waves, and not the Babylonian kind! He’s setting the record straight: His government is all about the fear of God, not some ruthless, iron-fist rule.

So, what’s the tea? The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) recently sent a heartfelt appreciation letter to Fubara, even offering him an award of recognition. Why? Because he’s running things differently like, way differently!

“It’s not just about ticking off demands; it’s about adding a human touch to governance. We’re not doing this Nebuchadnezzar style,” Fubara said at the inauguration of the new Labour House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Leading with Love, Not Fear

Fubara made it clear his leadership follows the “Jesus style.” That means love comes first, front and center. Instead of ruling with intimidation, he believes in compassion and fairness. That’s why his administration has been laser-focused on making life better for Rivers workers.

Back in 2023, when political drama was at its peak, Fubara decided to channel his energy into improving workers’ welfare. He knew that a happy and motivated workforce would drive the Rivers First agenda forward. And guess what? It worked! Workers now feel more valued, supported, and ready to give their best.

Big Moves for Workers

Picture this: Fubara was on his way to Abuja for a high-stakes political meeting, but his mind wasn’t just on politics—it was on the people. That’s when he made a game-changing decision: a Christmas bonus of N100,000 for every worker across all grade levels! And the kindness didn’t stop there. He extended the gesture to retirees in 2024. Now, that’s what you call leadership with a heart!

Speaking of good governance, Fubara also gave props to the Bayelsa State Government for maintaining a solid relationship with labour unions. He urged Bayelsa workers to see their benefits as a privilege, not a right—so they can cherish and protect them.

Honoring a Legend: Edwin Clark

In the midst of all the excitement, Fubara took a moment to pay his respects to the late Edwin Clark. He called Clark a true hero, a man of courage, truth, and regional development. And in a word of encouragement to Bayelsa’s Governor Douye Diri, he said:

“Stand for what is right. That’s what history will remember you for. Forget the money and material things—a good name lasts forever.”

Stronger Ties Between Rivers and Bayelsa

Fubara wrapped things up by promising to keep strengthening the bond between Rivers and Bayelsa. He’s all about collaboration, unity, and progress. So, one thing is clear this governor isn’t about outdated, oppressive rule. He’s about building a future where love leads, people thrive, and history remembers the good!
