IGP Egbetokun Sends Team to Visit Woman Hit by Stray Bullet in Ogun
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is taking swift action after a shocking incident in Ogun State. On July 24, 2024, a routine police checkpoint in Itele, Ota, turned chaotic when officers opened fire as a Lexus driver tried to dodge a stop. In the middle of it all, 27-year-old Tomiwa Oni Odofa was caught in the crossfire, hit by a stray bullet.
Nobody signs up for drama like this, and the Nigeria Police Force knows that. So, without wasting time, the Ogun State Police Command stepped in, ensuring Tomiwa got urgent medical care. She was monitored round the clock until she was strong enough to be discharged. But the story doesn’t end there!
The IGP isn’t playing when it comes to justice and accountability. The officers involved in the shooting faced serious disciplinary action. In a major move to show real concern, he ordered Ogun State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, to personally visit Tomiwa’s family in Ota. The visit is not just for show; it’s meant to check in on her healing journey and offer full police support.
And that’s not all. To help Tomiwa recover mentally and emotionally, the IGP also mandated immediate psychological therapy. Because, let’s be real, surviving such an experience is heavy, and she deserves all the help she can get. The force is committed to seeing her bounce back completely.
In a heartfelt message, the IGP wished Tomiwa a speedy recovery and reassured Nigerians that the police remain dedicated to justice, community welfare, and transparency.
