Former PDP Lawmaker Joins APC, Calls Tinubu ‘Grand Master of Politics
A former member of the House of Representatives, Ossai Ossai, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja after being received by the APC’s national secretary, Ajibola Bashiru.
Ossai explained that his decision to switch parties was driven by his desire to support President Bola Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria. He described Tinubu as his long-time mentor and a “grand master of politics,” whom he had admired since their days in the Social Democratic Party in Lagos.
According to Ossai, his move to the APC, along with other key political figures from Delta State, will significantly weaken the PDP in the region. He pointed out that the defection of influential members like Senator Ned Nwoko has already reduced the party’s dominance in the state.
The former lawmaker, who represented Ndokwa East for three terms under the PDP, said the party had lost its strong foundation. He emphasized that he could only align with a political group whose vision matched his, and he believes the APC offers a better path forward.
“I have followed Tinubu for years as a role model. Now, I am here to contribute to his mission of improving this nation,” Ossai stated.
He also dismissed any reports of division within the APC in Delta State, acknowledging that while different caucuses exist, his goal is to unite them for the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
As part of his commitment, Ossai confirmed that he had received his APC membership card and attended senatorial meetings. He pledged to uphold the party’s constitution and actively promote the Renewed Hope Agenda in Delta, especially in the agricultural sector, which he sees as a vital area benefiting Nigerians under Tinubu’s leadership.
During the reception, APC national secretary Ajibola Bashiru welcomed Ossai and took the opportunity to criticize the PDP. He blamed the party’s internal struggles on conflicting ambitions and poor leadership, arguing that Nigerians cannot trust a party that fails to manage its affairs.
With Ossai’s defection, the political landscape in Delta State is shifting, and the APC is positioning itself for a stronger presence ahead of the next elections.
