FG to Strengthen Ties with France for Economic Growth
The Federal Government is doubling down on its partnership with France, aiming to boost economic prosperity for both nations. This commitment was reaffirmed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, during a courtesy visit from the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Marc Fonbaustier, in Abuja.
Idris didn’t hold back in applauding Fonbaustier’s efforts in making President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 state visit to France a smooth and fruitful one. The relationship between Nigeria and France is stronger than ever, and the Minister made it clear that France is a top-tier ally.
“We can proudly say that France is a key partner for our country,” he said. “Not many African leaders get the level of welcome President Emmanuel Macron extended to President Tinubu. That shows the strong bond between our two nations, and we must build on it.”
During Tinubu’s visit, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were inked between the two countries, setting the stage for even deeper collaboration. Idris emphasized that his ministry is eager to tap into these agreements to deliver more effectively on its mission and contribute to Nigeria’s growth.
He also highlighted that President Tinubu’s economic reforms are already showing positive signs, and France’s commitment to supporting these reforms is a game-changer. “The French government is ready to partner with us to ensure these reforms not only take off but thrive,” he said.
Idris assured that Nigeria will continue engaging with France and other nations willing to support its development goals. He expressed gratitude for his ministry’s invitation to the Nigerian Business Forum in Paris on April 10.
On his part, Fonbaustier confirmed that his visit was all about taking action on the ambitious roadmap set by Presidents Tinubu and Macron. He stressed that communication and collaboration are crucial in scaling up this partnership. “France is ready to provide support, expertise, and technical know-how to make this vision a reality,” he noted.
He also personally invited Idris to the Nigeria Business Forum, calling him a “game-changer” whose insights could inspire French investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria. “With your passion, expertise, and role in government, you can showcase Nigeria’s potential to a room full of top investors,” Fonbaustier added.
With this growing alliance, expect more trade, investment, and economic breakthroughs. Nigeria and France are gearing up for a stronger, more dynamic partnership that will benefit both nations.
