FG Demands Answers: What Really Happened to Abubakar Lawal in Uganda?

FG Demands Answers: What Really Happened to Abubakar Lawal in Uganda?

Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal met a shocking and mysterious end in Uganda, and the Federal Government isn’t letting this slide. They want a full-blown investigation to uncover the truth behind his untimely death.

Lawal, who played for Vipers Sports Club and was also a final-year student at Cavendish University, allegedly fell from the third floor of Voicemail Shopping Arcade in Uganda on February 24, 2025. Sounds fishy, right? Well, NiDCOM’s Chairman, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, thinks so too! She called the incident “pathetic and suspicious,” demanding a thorough and transparent investigation. There are no cover-ups, no hidden truths, just cold, hard facts.

Ambassador Shama Shanga, the Nigerian Acting High Commissioner to Uganda, isn’t playing either. He’s pushing for a full autopsy and a deep dive into what actually happened that morning.

According to Uganda’s Kajjansi Police Division, Lawal arrived at the shopping mall in his car on a black ride with registration number UBQ 695G. He was there to see his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national who had been staying in room 416 since February 20. Naima claimed she left Lawal in the room making tea while she went to a game center. But minutes later, at around 8:00 a.m., Lawal was found on the ground, lifeless. Suspicious much?

Lawal was rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, but sadly, it was too late. Authorities found his belongings, including a backpack with two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers, at the scene.

Right now, Ugandan police are analyzing CCTV footage and grilling key witnesses to piece this puzzle together. The burning question is: Did Lawal fall, or was he pushed?

No one’s letting this slide. The Nigerian government is making sure Lawal’s family gets the answers they deserve. “We demand a thorough investigation,” Dabiri-Erewa insisted. And let’s be real. We all need the truth!

This isn’t just another tragic headline. It’s a wake-up call. Footballers, students, travelers, and anyone could be in Lawal’s shoes. We can’t let cases like this be swept under the rug.
