Edo PDP Slams Okpebholo Over Uromi Killings, Calls for Urgent Action

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come out swinging against the brutal killing and burning of seven people in Uromi, Esan North-East. This horrific event, which took place on Thursday, has sent shockwaves across the state.

In a statement released on Friday, Anthony Aziegbemi, the chairman of Edo PDP’s Caretaker Committee, put the blame squarely on the newly revamped state vigilante group under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration. According to him, the people of Edo are beyond frustrated. They’ve endured months of kidnappings, killings, and assaults while the government has done next to nothing to step in. Out of fear and helplessness, the locals have now resorted to taking matters into their own hands.

Let’s be real, people tend to mirror their leaders. When the government shows zero regard for law and order, it’s no surprise that civilians follow suit. Edo is now witnessing a terrifying trend of mob justice, and this latest tragedy in Uromi is just one of many examples.

With over 100 lives lost in recent months, Edo PDP is not holding back. They’re calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in ASAP and declare a state of emergency. If Rivers State had one for far less chaos, why is Edo being overlooked?

We genuinely feel for the families of those who lost their lives in this madness. No one should have to endure such pain and grief. But let’s be clear—the real issue is the breakdown of governance under Okpebholo’s watch. Since stepping into office, he’s been more focused on undoing his predecessor’s work than actually leading the state. Instead of crafting solutions, he’s been hopping from one old project site to another, playing politics while Edo burns literally.

Worse still, the once-effective security structure set up by the previous administration has been dismantled. Surveillance cameras? Gone. Well-organized security networks? Disbanded. And what’s left? A chaotic and dangerous Edo where people live in constant fear.

The area where the incident happened has now turned into a ghost town. Residents are terrified that more violence will follow, and honestly, can we blame them? This is precisely why urgent action is needed. Edo PDP is making it clear: enough is enough. We need the federal government to step in before more innocent lives are lost.

At this point, we’re practically begging for leadership. Okpebholo needs to wake up or step aside. Edo people deserve better! It’s time to focus on safety, governance, and progress, not political vendettas.
