Communal Dispute: Governor Adeleke Reduces Curfew to 17 Hours in Ilobu, Ifon, Erin-Osun

Communal Dispute: Governor Adeleke Reduces Curfew to 17 Hours in Ilobu, Ifon, Erin-Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced the reduction of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun communities to 17 hours daily. The curfew will now be in effect from 2 PM to 7 AM, allowing residents to move freely within the available hours to attend to their personal needs.

The three neighboring communities have been embroiled in a longstanding land dispute, leading to recurrent violent clashes. In response to escalating tensions, the state government had earlier imposed a full-day curfew to restore peace and prevent further conflict.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement stating that the curfew reduction takes effect immediately. The decision aims to alleviate residents’ hardship while maintaining security in the affected areas.

“The governor took the decision to ease the suffering of the people and allow them to meet their immediate needs while ensuring that peace is sustained,” the statement read.

Despite the relaxation, Governor Adeleke has expressed concerns over reports of fresh violence, including a recent killing, for which an arrest has been made. He has issued a stern warning that anyone found inciting violence or engaging in criminal activities will face the full weight of the law.

The joint security task force will continue its 24-hour surveillance to maintain order and ensure strict adherence to law and order in the affected communities.

Additionally, Governor Adeleke has directed the state emergency agency to intensify relief efforts for displaced persons, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing necessary assistance.

Governor Adeleke has urged all parties involved to embrace peace and unity, emphasizing the need for dialogue over violence. He reiterated that the government remains committed to fostering lasting solutions to the communal conflict.

The Osun State government continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that security and humanitarian measures remain in place for the welfare of all residents.
