Amid Political Tension, Lagos Lawmakers Deny Defection Rumors Again

Once again, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have dismissed reports claiming that 25 lawmakers are planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for another political party.

On Tuesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security, and Strategy, Stephen Ogundipe, released a statement in Lagos refuting the allegations. He stressed that no APC lawmaker in the Assembly is considering defection, labeling the claims as false and misleading.

This is not the first time such rumors have surfaced. On February 19, the Assembly had to debunk similar reports suggesting that 27 lawmakers were planning to join the Labour Party. However, lawmakers reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and their commitment to resolving internal disputes through the party’s structures.

Ogundipe acknowledged that challenges exist but assured the public that issues within the party would be handled peacefully and through proper channels. He urged Nigerians to ignore the misleading reports, which he believes are meant to create unnecessary tension.

He also reaffirmed the lawmakers’ support for President Bola Tinubu and their dedication to the party’s vision. He called on those spreading false information to stop, emphasizing that the Assembly remains focused on making laws that drive Lagos forward.
