‘Fire will consume those threatening Kano peace,’ Emir Sanusi blows hot

Tensions are rising in Kano as Emir Lamido Sanusi speaks out against those opposing his reinstallation. In a voice message shared on Facebook by Premier Radio, he urged residents to remain peaceful but did not hold back in condemning those trying to disrupt the city.

Emir Sanusi’s Strong Warning

Sanusi declared that those challenging his return to the throne are defying God’s will. He warned that anyone attempting to create chaos in Kano would face divine punishment.

“We call on the people to obey the law. This struggle is not about me; it is about what God has destined. God does not need anyone’s help. Be patient and prayerful. God always supports justice,” he said in Hausa.

“Fire will consume anyone trying to set Kano ablaze. May such people never find peace. May Allah protect our country and our lives. Anyone challenging God’s decision will not end well,” he added.

Ongoing Tension in Kano

Sanusi’s statement comes amid growing uncertainty in the state. Governor Abba Yusuf recently instructed the emirate councils to begin preparations for the Sallah durbar procession. However, his rival, Aminu Ado Bayero, also announced plans to hold his own celebrations.

Ado Bayero, who was removed from the throne last May when the government reinstated Sanusi, has notified security agencies of his intent to mark his fifth anniversary as emir during Sallah.

In a letter signed by his private secretary, Abdullahi Kwaru, Ado Bayero assured that all activities would be peaceful. “This letter formally informs security agencies that this year’s Sallah events coincide with the fifth anniversary of His Highness on the throne. We assure you that all activities will be conducted peacefully,” the letter stated.

The Power Struggle Continues

Both Sanusi and Ado Bayero claim the Kano emirship. While Sanusi was reinstated under a new law, Ado Bayero is challenging his removal in court. The two men now reside in separate palaces, symbolizing the deep division within the state.
