Activist Turns Down Governor’s Offer

Activist Turns Down Governor’s Offer

In a surprising move, Rikwense Muri, a well-known human rights activist in Taraba State, has turned down an appointment offered by Governor Agbu Kefas. The appointment, which was for the position of Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Project Tracking, was part of a larger list of 178 appointments announced last week by the governor.

Muri, a strong critic of the current administration and a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), shared his decision in a letter addressed to Governor Kefas through the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Timothy Kataps.

In his letter, Muri expressed gratitude for being considered for the position and praised the governor’s efforts to include people from all political backgrounds in governance. However, after consulting with his party and political allies, Muri made it clear that accepting the offer would not align with his commitments.

“As a proud member of the APC and the State Publicity Secretary of the APC Youth Vanguard in Taraba, my loyalty to the Renewed Hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unwavering,” he stated. Muri further explained that with the significant support and development his state has been receiving under the current administration, it would be inconsistent for him to abandon his party at this crucial time.

Moreover, Muri pointed out that the APC party’s constitution prohibits members from accepting such offers from opposition administrations without the proper channels being followed. Since these steps weren’t taken in this case, Muri emphasized that he could not abandon the party he’s been loyal to since 2015.

Muri concluded by reaffirming his dedication to APC, noting his efforts in helping the party grow and win elections in his constituency.
