Sanwo-Olu Pledges to work with new Lagos speaker

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to team up with the newly-minted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, to keep pushing Lagos forward. And guess what? This duo is already bringing some serious “let’s-get-things-done” energy to the table!

It all went down on Monday when the governor welcomed Speaker Meranda and her crew of principal officers on a courtesy visit to his office in Ikeja. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect just before the State Executive Council meeting kicked off. Talk about setting the tone for a productive week!

Of course, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, was there to join the good vibes. Together, they ushered the Speaker and her team into the Council Chamber, where things got real. Both sides promised to keep it 100 in their working relationship, showing a united front that spells progress for Lagos.

Now, if you’re wondering what Sanwo-Olu had to say about all this, here’s the tea. Taking to X.com (formerly Twitter), he dropped a powerful message:

“This partnership between the Executive and Legislative arms ensures Lagos stays a trailblazer in governance. We’re building on past wins and hustling hard to deliver game-changing progress across all sectors. We’ll roll out projects and policies that bring our Greater Lagos dream to life together.”

If that doesn’t give you hope for the city, what will?

For Speaker Meranda, it’s been a whirlwind of a week. She stepped into her new role last Monday after the previous Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was fired following allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. By Friday, she was already presiding over her first sitting and setting up a fresh leadership squad, including a seven-man Selection Committee.

This change gives Lagos some fresh energy, and all eyes are on this dynamic duo to see what they’ll pull off next. One thing’s for sure: with this level of collaboration and mutual respect, the Greater Lagos vision is looking brighter than ever.
